Year 6

Welcome back! smiley

I hope you all had a lovely holiday! frown

This term we will focus on a lot of Maths and English to get us ready for SATS. We will expect all children to complete their homework and bring them back to school on time. We may also give some children more homework, to support their learning.

This term we have an interesting topic on BENIN and we will be looking at the history of Benin and creating some lovely Art pieces on brass and bronze ornaments.

Throughout, the year we are looking for the children to demonstrate our school values such as honesty, team work and determination so that they can win raffle tickets for their team.

We expect all children in Year 6 to behaviour appropriately at all times, as they are the role models for other children.  Year 6 can be a challenging year as we will be completing SATS papers; however we are confident that they will all work extremely hard to achieve their targets.

Some important information for Year 6 parents/carers:

  • Homework- Spelling will be given out every Monday to be tested on a Friday. Further English and Maths homework will be given out on Friday and should be in on Monday.
  • PE-  will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
  • Reading- It is essential that your child continues to read every night.

Year 6 teachers would like to encourage children to bring in water bottles which they can leave in the water bottle box inside the classroom.

Medium Term plan for topic (WW2)

Lewis has written about Narnia. Please read his work. It is fantastic.

The Blue Boat by Jake and Nancy

Mathematics

In Maths we used our learning of percentages, proportion, ratio and scale as well as applying our understanding of number skills.  We developed a business idea: to construct the largest skyscraper in the world (not to scale obviously). Look at how much fun we had! :)

Maths Party Day!!!

Year 6 have been investigating all morning. Half of the class had a set budget and had to organise a party whilst the other year 6 children experimented with shapes. Please have a look at our pictures.

Science

Colomendy

Year 6 went on a residential to colomendy - it was fantastic! Please have a look at our pictures.

In Science we have been investigating how circuits work.  We even made switches of our own.
